The City of Henderson, NV, recently invited artists to bid on a project to paint benches for the vibrant Water Street District. Out of 60 talented applicants, I was honored to be selected alongside 12 other artists to showcase our work for the community. The theme of the project was "water," which inspired me to delve into my artistic vision.
My inspiration stemmed from Brian Froud's enchanting book, Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book. The illustrations portray faeries being "pressed" between the pages, sparking the idea of a "captured mermaid" for my bench design. I envisioned the bench as her cage, symbolizing her entrapment. The project took me approximately 13 hours to complete, and it was my absolute pleasure to present my creation to the city.
